The State Department to start asking visa applicants for their social media accounts

Social media accounts reveal a lot about a person, such as their habits, interests, etc, and for those reasons, the Trump Administration has announced that it will ask visa applicant’s to list all of their social media accounts during the application process.

Both permanent and temporary travelers will be required to list their accounts when sending an application to the State Department. The system right now only uses the “major” social media services but it could expand to other sites as well in the future.

The State Department already collects information on candidates through background checks and contact information, but this is another step in the extreme vetting process of the visitors.

This shows how important social media has become and the impact it has on the users. It gives a look into a person’s life, and now even employers have started taking social media activity into account for their hiring process.
