Drones are being developed for a variety of functionalities, and one of the most common uses of these are drones are for deliveries. In fact, Amazon is betting big money on the concept of drones by investing more and more money into the research and development of these delivery drones. Now, a company known as Zipline has announced what seems to be the fastest delivery drones yet.
The specs of these drones are incredible. The aircraft weighs only 44 pounds and has a cruising speed of 128 Kilometers per hour. This means it can fly four times faster than the current quadcopter drones. It has a maximum round-trip range of 160 Kilometers and can carry cargo weighing up to four pounds. Zipline says its new drones can make up to 500 deliveries a day, an astounding number.
Zipline’s primary business is delivering blood supplies through drones. Now it wants to start operating in the U.S. as part of its initiative to go global. Having a service like this will make medical help a lot more accessible in rural areas of the country. Zipline’s U.S. operations are expected to commence by the end of 2018. However, before that, it will have to go through the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority for trials.
